Last week a comment was made to me by a lady that the colour RED is used a lot as she facilitates a group integrating creative art mediums in the psyche ward. We automatically think, yes RED is for anger, so we may assume that whatever issue anyone is working with on a mental/emotional level, anger is going to be the dominating emotion.
What most people don’t realise is that, with skillful facilitation, the anger that is being expressed in a safe nonverbal medium, being crayons and paper, can transmute to an inner awakening that also sits with the language of red. As that inner awakening starts to happen, still in the colour red, the person can begin to take an inner journey where they learn the strengths of the red, learning to stay in their personal power, and as they journey, letting go of destructive behaviours and over time coming to a place of strength as they recognize that within red is the colour pink…the love for self and others.
There is huge power in owning a box of oil coloured pastels and a roll of butchers paper.
It is over time that I have discovered with the help of an inner push, that we can use our colours creatively and for some it can become a medium to experience the embodiment of prayer that I have spoken about.
I have since learned that in America this creative act of praying in colour is being taught in Churches.
When we move away from the logic mind, and move into a doodling space with the use of colour we are opening ourselves up to a deeper space of awareness and we start asking for what we really want that is in alignment with our Soul. We may become aware of mindsets that are keeping us from being fully in our power. It is a creative journey that will be different for everybody.
As play and doodling are incorporated in with the use of colour we may find ourselves really needing to work in a particular colour, it is important to go with that keep using that colour, you may want to just sit and look at the colour. Even if you don’t know what it means. Take a look at your art the next day. Is there a change in your psyche or do you still need to deepen that red? Stay with your art for as long as it holds your attention.
As I teach mental/emotional health through the medium of colour, I get many ‘ah-ha’ moments. One lady suddenly understood why she would feel compelled to gaze at a purple flower in her garden. Within Purple one of the emotions if Grief. If we listen we can heal ourselves, we know what colour we need in our life to support us, notice the colour you select from your wardrobe if you are out of balance emotionally. As we journey through many different life situations it is the embodiment of each colour that enables us to live a healthy balanced emotional life.
